Architectural Illustrations, Artists Impressions, Perspectives, CGIs and Presentational Artwork
Perspectives
Trained as an architect, I have over 20 years experience as a freelance architectural illustrator in the UK and abroad, producing artist's impressions which are either hand-rendered perspectives, or digitally produced CGIs, depending on requirements. It is extremely important that visualisations of a building development should be geometrically correct, as these will end up before Planning Authorities, Public Enquiries, and other corporate bodies. Although this is perfectly possible without the use of a computer (Standard practice up to 15-20 years ago), my use of a CAD rough draft as a matter of course, regardless of final perspective format, serves to re-assure clients that the end result is accurate. Hence the advantage of this sort of presentational artwork for UK and overseas investors.
CAD Images
I have produced CAD models over many years for architects and developers in the UK and elsewhere, based either on my own setup models, or from 3D models supplied by the client. Fixed CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) viewpoints or walkthroughs can be produced in order to demonstrate the spatial experience of a proposed development. Alternatively these CGI illustrations can be taken to draft stage only, and presented as a wireframe or part-rendered image for use by architects and designers as a useful design tool. Because my hand-drawn perspectives and my CAD images are based on the same draft model, both products are of equal geometric accuracy.
General Illustration and Artist's Impressions
Other work consists of brochure images and drawings based on photographic and miscellaneous sources of information. As an Architectural Illustrator, I have had numerous commissions including guide book illustrations, artist's impressions, book covers, cards, and other presentational artwork for UK and overseas businesses. Clients include Historic Scotland, Royal College of Surgeons, Eidsgaard Design, etc.
